About Me

Hi! I'm Kyle.

I make media. Making media has been my life's work. I've been doing it for so long that it's become like blinking. You just kinda forget that you're doing it, day in and day out.

Professionally, I started in radio with Mellow 94.7 and I continue to announce on-air with 87.5 FM1. After radio, I got into television by hosting a tech show called Convergence on NET25. Now I'm moving over from a career in broadcasting into a life lived and shared online.

For a full recap of my life's work, connect with me on LinkedIn. For my origin story and what the future holds for me, please feel free to read below.

But first....

What's In It For You?

I created this space because it's been lonely writing to myself in a private pen-and-paper journal. I'd like to hear back from another voice that isn't the one in my head.

That's where you come in.

I'm writing here as much for me as for other people like you who might also be in a funky phase in life: trying to get out of that funk and into a flow that might just actually lead to a better life.

And that's what's in it for you.

Because if you're in a funk, and you want out of it, I hope you'll live and learn along with me to get better together. Whether that's generally in life, love, technology, media, or that weird crazy place where all those things collide, I got you.

Why We Do What We Do When We Do What We Do

A long time ago, before I knew who Gandalf was, I created an "award-winning" animated short fantasy film. It was about a family of four defeating a green dragon with the help of a bearded wizard clothed in a purple robe. And yes, the wizard's robe was decorated in bright, yellow stars. I was 11.

That was in 1995. The film was animated using a Macintosh and then recorded, VO'd, and edited on JVC equipment that barely anyone used except during after school hours for the KMMI Club at Montgomery Middle School.

That little movie of mine won second place in a multimedia competition sponsored by KPBS in San Diego. I won $50 (which was a lot of money for a first-generation immigrant Filipino kid) and my parent's admiration (which was worth more than any amount of money for any first-generation immigrant Asian kid).

In high school, I was that lanky guy roaming the halls in elephant pants holding a camcorder to people's faces. (Remember that dude in American Beauty who did the same thing? Yeah, I was that guy.)

It's funny looking back at how people thought it was weird to document your life on video when almost everyone and their mother "vlogs" today. "Please LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE below," we all say.

It's a thing now. Everyone's a media maker.

Me In A Minute: Top Ten Things

I like lists. Especially checklists. They get the work done. I hope these lists work for you, too:

  1. I stopped keeping count of my age after 23.
  2. I was born in the Philippines and raised on U.S. military bases.
  3. I studied Philosophy in college and somehow graduated with honors.
  4. I work across multiple media platforms as a talent, writer, and producer.
  5. I created a multimedia company covering technology, startups, and esports.
  6. I am mostly in my head more than anywhere else.
  7. I made over 10,000 tacos while working at Taco Bell.
  8. I like to get seven hours of sleep a day and train at the gym three times a week.
  9. I automatically smile when I see puppies, babies, and my nieces.
  10. I copy to come up with something new. Don't you.

5 Lessons Learned Halfway Through Life

If I'm lucky enough to live into my 80's then I'm halfway there. (And any longer than that would be sweet, sweet bonus years.) Here are some life lessons from a fairly short life so far:

  1. Take that leap and believe in something greater than yourself. Have faith that you’ll find sound footing on the other side. Pray.
  2. Talk the talk and walk the walk. A is A. You can’t say you are something or will do something, and then not be that person or not do that thing.
  3. The "simplest" equation to success is probably to work hard and smart and for long enough that you’re bound to meet with Lady Luck.
  4. Leave this world better than when we enter it. I love my nieces. They mean the whole world to me and my family. They deserve the best life possible. All children do.
  5. Sleep more. That’s more of a goal than an actual life lesson right now. But I bet some thirty-odd years from now I’ll say to myself, “I wish I had slept more when I was in my thirties.” Then it'll be a lesson learned too late.

If This Isn't Enough, Dig Deep and Creep

  • First things first, you can Google me.
  • After that, you can attempt to friend me on Facebook (if I'm even still there) or just like my Page.
  • I'm also on Instagram, but like with anything owned by the Zuck, I'm seldom active on those platforms.
  • But I am almost always on Twitter reading everyone else's brainfarts (and sometimes I tweet mine too).
  • For more serious stuff, LinkedIn is where I'm at.

About This Website: Members-only

I created this space because it's been lonely writing to myself in a private pen-and-paper journal. I'd like to hear back from another voice that isn't the one in my head.

That's where you come in.

I'm writing here as much for me as for other people like you who might also be in a funky phase in life: trying to get out of that funk and into a flow that might just actually lead to a better life.

And that's what's in it for you.

I only have one ask: Please don't be a stranger. Subscribe.

It's free and takes less than nine seconds of your time.

Why Subscribe?

For three simple reasons:

  1. Our time becomes more valuable when we can both reach out and connect with one another. I don't want to waste my time sharing and writing to strangers. I'd rather build something for a smaller group of people who can at least say, "Hi."
  2. This is my slice of the Internet. I built this place. Yet I still get a lot of spam and random people trying to break into my online home. Subscribing is like politely knocking on my door to let yourself come in. Please, come in.
  3. This is my slice of the Internet.

After you subscribe, you'll receive a confirmation email in your inbox that you'll need to click on. Finally, you'll have access to my website – past, present, and future.

(Note: You should be able to stay logged in to my website once you've done this, but if you clear your cookies and get logged out, you can just easily log in again by entering the same email address you used for your subscription.)

Can I Unsubscribe?

Yes, and I will be sad to see you go. But if you must go, you can log into your account settings and unsubscribe. Unsubscribing means you will no longer receive any updates from me via email. You'll still remain a member, and if you're super sure you want out, send me this email and I'll manually remove you myself.

(Note: I don't take any payments for membership on my website, so I don't have any information about you besides your name and your email address. I delete that information too when you tell me you want out as a member.)
